Comp. Squad Meeting Change

The competition squad meeting is now on Monday, August 10th at 6:00 pm in room S-75.  This is the last day of camp, but you will be done at noon.  If you are interested in comp, then you and parent definitely  need to attend the mandatory meeting.  Call or email if you have questions.

CAMP INFO & RULES

NCA CHEER CAMP

AUGUST 7-10, 2009

You have received a camp schedule.  Make sure you are on time to every single class or event.  You need to eat breakfast prior to camp.  Lunch is approximately from 12-2 and dinner is from 5-7.  Each day your coach will inform you of where to meet and when.  Being late or missing an event without prior permission will result in 1/3 of a strike.  If you ever have any questions or doubt, call your coach immediately.  Family, friends, boyfriend/girlfriends are not allowed to stay on campus during camp to watch or hang out.  The only time family/friends are allowed is the last day of camp from 9:00-12:00 to watch final evaluations and awards.  You need to get a ride to and from camp.  Make sure your ride is on time and is there to pick you up as soon as camp lets out.  It will be dark and you may not wait alone, so be considerate of your coaches.  Family members may drop off food for you or pick you up to take you to lunch and dinner, but you may not leave with friends.

ATTIRE

(Girls) Wear this year’s cheer shoes and your cheer bow every single day.

Day 1-T-shirt (Find your inner warrior) w/gold shorts.

Day 2-Polka-dot shirt (I megaphone FHS) w/purple shorts.

Day 3-FUN DAY! We will discuss the outfit during practice.  

Day 4-Blank “Cheer” tank w/ black mesh shorts.  Your bra may NOT show while wearing this tank.  Wear either a sports bra or the kind that crisscrosses in the back.  

(Guys) Wear this year’s cheer shoes every single day.

Day 1-White t-shirt w/black shorts.

Day 2-White t-shirt (FHS) w/black shorts.

Day 3-FUN DAY! We will discuss the outfit during practice.

Day 4-Wear black shirt (FHS Warriors) w/grey shorts.

WHAT TO BRING TO CAMP

-poms (Varsity girls) megaphones (Varsity guys)

-healthy snacks 

-tons of cold water

-sunblock

-$ for lunch or a packed lunch

-$ for dinner or a packed dinner

-bring your cell phone to use in case you need to call your parents or coach

-extra hairbands in case yours breaks

-any medication (inhaler) if you have asthma

-$ if you want to purchase anything from the Varsity Spirit Store

-camera (if you want)

*Reminder-You need to be responsible for your items.  If you don’t want to bring an expensive camera or cell phone, then you do not have to do so.  This is your decision.  Between the last practice before camp (July 29th) and camp, check the FHS Cheer Blog to make sure there are no last minute changes.

Captains

Captains will be announced on Wednesday, July 29th during practice.  Many factors are used when selecting captains:  attitude, punctuality, attendance, behavior, dedication, leadership, teamwork, etc.  The captain(s) will call out cheers at games, lead stretches, inform the coach/advisor of any issues or conflicts, represent FHS at various functions, and be an overall leader of his/her team.  If the captain(s) at any time is not fulfilling their role, the coach will select a new captain.  

UNIFORMS!!!

Here are a few pics of the Frosh/JV & Varsity uniform.  Sorry guys-my daughter is too small to try on your uniform.  The Frosh/JV is purple and Varsity is gold.  It will look better on you because the uniforms were a tad big on her, but either way, very cute.  Pay them off ASAP!!

Items Due on Monday

The following items are due on Monday, July 27th:

2.  Physical Paperwork

3.  Camp Release Form

The next payment is due within the next 2 weeks.  You have less than 4 weeks to pay off your uniform.  

2009 NCA Camp Schedule

Here is the NCA 2009 camp schedule for August 7-10 at Fresno State.  Click on the schedule to enlarge the picture.  You will receive a copy during Wednesday's practice.  You need to attend all 4 days and be there all day.  Make arrangements now to have a ride to and from camp.  More details will follow...

Cookie Dough Arrival

Cookie dough must be picked up this Wednesday, July 22nd in the FHS cafeteria at 12:00 pm. Any cookie dough not picked up will be thrown away immediately. There is no place to store the cookie dough. YOU MUST PICK IT UP WEDNESDAY!! Call or email if you have questions.

Uniforms!!!

My guest room is full of FHS uniforms!!  We haven't received every single item, yet, however the stuff is coming in very fast.  I come home from running errands to find 2, 3, sometimes, 4 boxes on my front porch!  You need to keep making your payments to ensure you can wear your uniform on the first day of school (August 17th).  If you want to pay off now, you are more than welcome to do so.  If you aren't sure of your current balance, please talk to Mrs. Champion.  You will receive your camp clothes on Monday, July 27th, but all other pieces will not be distributed until the uniform is paid in full.  Keep paying!!

Practice Time

Practices are now 9-11:30 Monday & Wednesday.  Please make arrangements to attend the extra 30 minutes.  

NO TANK TOPS

As of today, July 15th, tank-tops are NOT allowed at practice.  Do NOT wear tank-tops until you are notified that you can.  Wearing a tank will result in a 1/3 of a strike.  

Competition Squad-Varsity Only

If you are on Varsity and would like to be on the comp. team, you and a parent/guardian need to attend the competition squad meeting.  It is on Monday, August 3rd at 6:00 p.m. in the wrestling room.  If the date or time changes, we will notify you at practice and on this blog.  You and a parent/guardian must attend the meeting to participate on the team.  There are no make-up meetings.  

Learn the Alma Mater

You need to memorize the Fresno High Alma Mater.  You need to know it for rallies, games, and the Alumni Association Dinner in October.  You will be tested in September on the words.  I will pass out a copy at the next practice.  To hear how it is supposed to sound, visit the following link:

Safety First, People!

In case you would ever like to see all the rules for cheerleading, here is a website you can look over.  This explains all stunting & tumbling rules.  The main thing is unless we are on mats, grass, or a padded track, no baskets allowed.  This includes during all basketball games & rallies.  Read through the rules to get a better understanding of all the restrictions.

Texting

Just a reminder-Do not text your coach or Mrs. Champion.  If you have a question, either call or email.  If you do not have your coach's number or email, ask for it at practice.  We have asked/told everyone several times to not text, but some squad members are still texting.  If you are going to miss practice or running late, your PARENT/GUARDIAN needs to call or email-not you! If you send a text, it will be ignored.   Thank you :)

CAR WASH

The first car wash is Saturday, July 11th.  This is mandatory, even if you are not fundraising for your uniform.  The car wash is from 8 am-2 pm at FHS in the McKinley parking lot.  Sign-ups will be during practice on Monday-first come first selection.  Each squad member must sign up for a 2 hour time slot.  I will also pass out pre-sale tickets.  You will sell each ticket for $5.  All proceeds from the pre-sale will go towards your uniform.  The money raised during the car wash will go towards the general cheer fund to purchase music, megaphones, etc.  I reiterate that the car wash is not optional.  Each person must bring 5-7 dry rags, sponges/car wash rags, and a bucket.  The coaches will provide the soap and hoses.  We will also need approximately 5 squad members to make signs.  You can sign up on Monday.  Please tell all you family, friends, & neighbors to come get their car washed on Saturday.  Call or email if you have questions.  

Reminders

REMINDERS-

1.  You need to make your next payment in the next week.  Please pay anywhere from $200-300.  You may pay more if you would like.  Give your payments to Mrs. Champion.  Make checks out to Fresno High.  

2.  Physicals & the other athletic policy forms are due within the next 2 weeks.  Turn the forms in to Mrs. Champion
